Caleb

Judges 1 :20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

It was Caleb’s faith in God that gave him courage; that kept him from the fear of man, even the mighty giants, the sons of Anak, and enabled him to stand boldly and unflinchingly in defense of the right. From the same exalted source, the mighty General of the armies of heaven, every true soldier of the cross of Christ must receive strength and courage to overcome obstacles that often seem insurmountable {CM p .117}

Caleb had a firm and unshakeable faith in God. When his turn came to receive an inheritance he asked for the land where the sons of Anak lived. These were the same giants that had struck terror to the hearts of the twelve spies when they went to spy out the Promised Land. Now he as an eighty-year-old man offered to drive them out single-handed! He, as an eighty-year-old man had the faith and courage to drive these Giant sons of Anak out who had terrified the ten spies who gave a discouraging report!

From the beginning God has been working by His Holy Spirit through human instrumentalities for the accomplishment of His purpose in behalf of the fallen race. . . . The same power that sustained the patriarchs, that gave Caleb and Joshua faith and courage, and that made the work of the apostolic church effective, has upheld God’s faithful children in every succeeding age. {The Faith I Live By 1958 p.52}

As courageous of heart as when with the hosts of the Lord he set out from Egypt, Caleb asked for and received as his portion the stronghold of the giants. In God’s strength he drove out the Canaanites. The vineyards and olive groves where his feet had trodden became his possession. Though the cowards and rebels perished in the wilderness, the men of faith ate of the grapes of Eschol. {Ed p.149}

We must have the faith and courage of Caleb. He had faith and courage so as to be able to drive the sons of Anak out. Let us pray for more courage and faith. Then we will be able to drive out the Giants of sin out of our life!
AMEN.
