“My Peace I Give Unto You”
This world is full of trouble, unrest, wars, and terrorism. Even professed Christians are worried about the future. Jesus said, “Men’s hearts are failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.” Luke 21:26.
There is no peace in the heart of the people. The troubled, worried look on the faces show the inner restlessness, and all the human inventions are not able to cure it.
Man has invented wonderful things, machines, computers, airplanes and many great time saving equipment, but he has not invented how to bring peace into the world. He knows how to fight wars, how to kill and destroy only.
The greatest problem in our world that destroys the peace in the human beings is the psychological problems. The doctors and scientists have not found a solution to it.
People suffer depressions, sadness, loneliness, bitterness, and anger to the point that they see suicide as the only solution to their misery.
This all began with Satan. He tried to find a better way to live than God’s way. But instead of finding peace and happiness, he created a monster, a psychological monster. Satan and his angels are the most restless and unhappy beings. Constantly they are arguing, fighting and disagreeing amongst themselves. And this problem they have passed on to the human race.
Children from an early age learn to fight and to complain. And this miserable restless way of living they continue to the end of their lives.
People think that pleasure and entertainment will remedy their misery. But it is only for a moment. Narcotic drugs and alcohol make them to forget their unhappiness for a moment, but when their effect is gone, their misery still remains.
“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” Isa. 57:20,21.
This explains clearly why the worldly people have no peace. It simply is not possible to have inner peace in them while they are practicing and living in sin.
The promise of Jesus to His followers is, “My peace I give unto you.” This shows that man cannot generate or make peace; it is a gift of God to His children.
But then if Jesus promised to give His peace to us, why are there restless professors of religion? Why do Christians complain and be miserable while the peace that passes understanding is offered to them?
Why did the disciples of Jesus become tearful in the storm, while Jesus was peacefully sleeping? Why did they become angry when the Samaritans did not allow them to stay in their village? All because they did not yet possess the peace of Jesus. This gift of God was not yet granted to them.
Millions of professed Christians spend time and money for their religion and gain nothing in return. They have no peace in their soul, no joy nor happiness, and the worst of all, they have no hope of eternal life.
Jesus said, “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (for after all these things do the gentiles seek:) for your eavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these hings.” Matt. 6:31,32.
These are the major worries that people have; lack of food, drink, and clothing cause a restless heart. People have fears of unemployment, sickness, Sunday laws, time of trouble and many other troubles. But a true Christian is not affected by them. To them religion is peace, joy and quiet resting in Jesus, regardless of outside conditions.
How to Gain Peace?
The first lesson we need to learn is that peace comes only from God. “Now the Lord of Peace Himself give you peace by all means.” 2 Thess. 3:16.
The second lesson is that we must fulfill the conditions for receiving the peace. “0 that thou hadst hearkened to My commandments! Then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea.” Isa.. 48:18.
“Great peace have they which love Thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” Ps. 119:165.
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance for ever.” Isa. 32:17.
It was sin that took away the peace from Adam and Eve. It was sin that caused David to have a troubled heart. Judas lost the peace in his heart and he could not continue to live with it.
“The grace of Christ received into the heart, subdues enmity; it allays strife and fills the soul with love. He who is at peace with God and his fellow men cannot be made miserable. Envy will not be in his heart; evil surmisings will find no room there; hatred cannot exist. The heart that is in harmony with God is a partaker of the peace of heaven and will diffuse its blessed influence on all around.” M.B. p. 28.
Only a person who has the peace of heaven in his heart can in turn become a peacemaker to spread this heavenly influence all around. Do not spend even one more day in worry and anxiety. Cast all your care upon Christ and your soul will be filled with sweet peace of heaven. May the Lord help us all to have this peace is my wish and prayer.
AMEN
