Your Life Story
God is writing the book of your life story. No biography that has ever been written of great men is so accurate in detail than the book that God is writing of your life. It does not contain only your deeds, but every word that you have spoken and even your thoughts are written in.
The most important part of this book is the ending–what is written on the last page.
If you are reading a book and someone tells you the ending of it, you may lose interest in reading it any more.
God who knows the end from the beginning could tell you the ending now, but in His wisdom He has decided to keep it hidden from you. If He would tell you that you will be lost in the end, then you would lose interest in life, especially in a Christian life. Again if He would tell you that you will be saved, you might stop striving for perfection since you will be in heaven anyways.
God does not make decisions in your life; you make them all. Whatever you decide to do, God respects it and acts towards you accordingly and continues to write your life story.
Human life seems so futile and useless. We struggle here for a while and then die in the end. Kings, queens, and all famous and important people die and turn to dust, same as servants and poor people. In natural disasters, earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods, thousands of people die suddenly.
The Bible tells us, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Heb. 9:27.
Once a person has decided for God or against Him, his life in this world is not so important anymore. When he makes a full surrender to God, he is saved. If he dies, sooner or later, he has chosen eternal life for himself. If he decides against God and His salvation, then his life after that decision is meaningless. He would only accumulate more sin and have greater punishment if he continues to live a longer time.
The writer of Psalms recognized this, “Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast Thou made all men in vain? What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave?” Ps. 89: 47, 48.
Many use this philosophy as a reason to live recklessly. Who cares how I live, as along as I enjoy the few years of my life.
“And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.” Isa. 22:13. The life story of millions of people ends like this, but it does not need to be so.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.” John 10: 27, 28.
This promise of Jesus can give your life story a happy ending. Instead of death, there can be life that is never-ending.
But there is something that you must do in order to have a happy ending in the book that God is writing about your life.
The first thing is, read your Bible. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Tim. 3: 15.
The word of God tells you exactly what is needed for the salvation of your soul. Therefore, daily Bible study is important.
Next comes obedience. “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22.
“Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Rev. 22:14.
If everybody would keep God’s commandments, this world would be like heaven. There would be no wars, no crime, no adulteries, children would obey their parents and families would stay together. Therefore, we need to examine ourselves daily to make sure that we have obeyed the commandments of God.
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates.” 2 Cor. 13:5.
“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Heb. 2:1.
By carelessness, we can forget the law of God and go on our own way. This would bring sadness to the Lord, that He would have to record sins instead of faithfulness. Also the Holy Spirit would be grieved. And the last page in your life story might be a disappointment to you.
The life in this world is really a school. We need to learn how to live and if we learn it, then God will give us eternal life.
Because the people do not know how to live, they make their own lives miserable and also the lives of other people.
Salvation really means to be saved from the wrong kind of living habits. God Himself, the angels, and the Holy Spirit are all engaged in teaching us how to live. Jesus is the example of the perfect life. If we copy Him then our life story will have a happy ending.
But our time is running out. Soon the time to learn these lessons will be over. If we have not learned to live a perfect life, the last page in our life story will say lost, eternally lost.
A little girl was working very hard in the late evening. She was asked why she worked so hard, and she replied, “My candle is almost burned out and I have not got another.”
The candle of our life is also almost burned out and we do not have another. Moses learned humility for 40 years in the land of Midian and he became the meekest man on the earth. We do not have so much time, therefore we must hurry up and learn these necessary lessons faster, or we may lose everything.
In order to have a happy ending in your life story you need all the help you can get from the Lord, the angels, the Holy Spirit and also brothers and sisters. It is not easy to change a sinner into a saint, but it is possible.
Add beautiful chapters into your book: like being kind to someone who hated you, or when you gave the last of your money to someone needy, or even seemingly little things, like when you turned off the television and took the Bible in your hands to read.
And finally, walk with God, like Enoch did. Choose your company very carefully and consider Jesus as your best friend with whom you can talk all day long and receive all the help you need. May the Lord help that truly the last page in your life story will say, saved for eternity.
AMEN.
